Donald Trump Is Vladimir Putin’s Good Friend
By Marvin Zonis
On Wednesday, April 11, President Trump fired off a tweet:
“Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and ‘smart!’ You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!”
By providing this advanced warning of a missile strike, the President provided the Russians and their Syrian allies with the opportunity to move their most important military assets away from any potential targets in Syria.
On Thursday, April 12, President Trump followed up with another tweet.
“Never said when an attack on Syria would take place. Could be very soon or not so soon at all! In any event, the United States under my Administration, has done a great job of ridding the region of ISIS. Where is our “Thank you America?”
Opening the prospect that a U.S. strike on Syrian territory will not happen after all, the President did nothing to diminish the Russians’ and the Syrians’ commitment to protecting their war making capabilities.
I am sure both Assad and Putin appreciate the opportunity their friend, Donald Trump, has given them.
