The Tyranny of the Minority
In a conversation with David Axelrod today, he said the following:
“If President Trump appoints a new Supreme Court justice to replace RBG, that will mean that five of the nine justices have been appointed by Presidents who won fewer votes than their opponents. That is an anti-democratic ‘Tyranny of the Minority’.”
My comment. The Constitution of the U.S., with its many checks and balances, was meant to prevent the tyranny of the majority. The founders do not seem to have envisaged the tyranny of the minority.
